Big Chain Grocery Stores in Emerald Isle, NC
Lowes Food
If you’re not local to North Carolina or certain parts of Virginia or South Carolina, you may not recognize Lowes Food. And, while there isn’t a Lowes Food directly in Emerald Isle, there is a location just over the bridge in Cape Carteret. Our Lowes Food underwent a complete transformation a few years ago and now offers several unique specialty shops under one roof. These include the Beer Den, where even the craft beer aficionado can discover IPAs and ESBs to porters, stouts and pilsners to his or her liking. Other specialty stores include the Chicken Kitchen (rotisserie chicken or 8 piece chicken dinner,) Sausageworks (pork, beef and turkey sausages in an unbelievable variety of flavors) and the Cakery.
Aside from selection aimed to please the most discerning palates, what makes Lowes Food really stand out is their excellent delivery service. Shop online and for a small charge, Lowes Food will pick up whatever you need from their store and deliver to your home.
Lowes Food is a great place to shop but once you are on the island and in Emerald Isle, who really wants to travel over a mile long bridge to pick up a few necessities?
Food Lion
Food Lion got its start also in North Carolina, in Salisbury waaay back in 1957. And its association with Emerald Isle goes waaay back, too. Food Lion is the anchor tenant in the shopping center called Emerald Plantation. If you ask the locals where they shop chances are they will say Food Lion first for a couple of reasons. One is loyalty. Food Lion was the first grocery chain to invest in Emerald Isle. The second is value. Food Lion boast a wide selection and great deals on all the items on your grocery list. And, like the Lowes Food off island, Food Lion offers both pick up and delivery services. For convenience and cost, Food Lion is hard to beat.
Publix
In 2016, developers unleashed a huge controversy when they proposed constructing a Publix smack dab next to the Food Lion. Some say previous elected officials had some influence. Nonetheless, in 2018, Emerald Isle got its second major grocery store and its first circle or rotary on Emerald Drive. Publix is a higher end store, reminiscent of the now defunct Harris-Teeter grocery chain. What Publix offers is the chance to get breakfast, lunch or dinner on the run. And like the other two chain stores, it also has its uniqe spin on home delivery options.
Buy Local
Seafood....
When you want the absolute freshest seafood, Cap’n Willis Seafood Market in Emerald Isle is my fishmonger of choice for a fantastic selection off local fish, shrimp, and shellfish. A good many people swear by Willis Seafood Market's crab cakes and key lime pie. Me, I rather purchase a pound of shell on Carolina brown shrimp or the freshest flounder, whole or fillet.

Donuts....
Flip Flops Donuts is ONLY place to get a hand made, made fresh daily classic yeast donut anywhere in Emerald Isle or eastern North Carolina for that matter. Watch the baker roll out the dough and be amazed at how quickly the fryer creates these lovely yeast-raised rings, bismarks and cinnamon twists.
Deli....
The Village Market is a great local source for all things meat, whether you are looking for cold cuts or you want to grill steaks out on the grill. Like the chain grocery stores the Market will prepare a meal for you, with a day's notice.
Bottom line, you won't go hungry when you visit Emerald Isle, NC whether you shop for yourself or select the delivery option. For a more detailed selection of food options in Emerald Isle, NC send me an email to: DRaczkowski@fathomrealty.com and I'll send you my Guide to Moving to Emerald Isle, NC
